SATISFACTION

Although I am pushing on a bit more now I still feel I have a lot more to offer. I feel some of my wok is under par and some of my ideas are too cliche or simply straight from research. I am happy with the performance event and I am looking forward to the next one on 29th January. This event really pushed me on to finishing a piece of work. I need more results on a weekly basis. I like to feel pressure, it keeps me motivated......

FURTHER CELL

All live together within areas. This image does suggest more hierarchy....

ARTISTS

Kelly Mark
50 TVs all tuned to the same chanel in one suburban home giving an alien like glimmer at night. Would be a beautiful and disturbing image.Would love to see it in real life. Public art yet private residency....

Banksy

Taking the piss out of traditional art. Paintings in ornate frames

KATIE DEEPWELL LECTURE

I found how Katie described the different art publicaions very interesting. She described how the art audience is broken up into seperate groups. Frieze has it's own agenda, such as the promotion of all the galleries it presents in its art fair. But there is no media monopoly in the art journal market.

24 HOUR DRAMA

The Performance Company stayed in The Ivy House pub by Holborne Tube station from 8 pm on Friday the 2nd December until 8 pm Saterday the 3rd and we then performed a piece of work together in front of an audience. I worked with Mia who performed a piece with Peter Bond at Nolia's Gallery for our other event. We stuck mouths o our bellys and talked as if we were two random people meetin in a pub. While talking absolute crap in a way of trying to convince the other of your coolness and therefore sexual hierarchy we got closer as if we were excited by the subject. We then became perverse in how we described the subject. We then immediately fell back into bullshit chat. It releated to sexual exhaustion of meeting people without actually getting to know them.
Great experience
Another Nolia's Gallery Event has been arranged for Sunday 29th January.

NEWSPAPERS

Scanned in Metro cover and changed the name. Still need to work on the articles.

TELOVISION DOCUMENTATION

Performed at Nolia's Gallery. 24th November 2005 as part of Human-Being-Human a live art platform.

TELOVISION

This is a performance\video piece that I will perform again on Wednsday at 11.
I have already performed it at a live art event which is further described in my proposal. Here is image documentation of the piece and I will talk through all the different parts. PLEASE VIEW THE PIECE FIRST AND THEN READ THIS FOR CLARIFICATION.

Opens with television giving the orders. Demonstrates control.
Screen shows white noise-style agitation and then a flicering light. Suggests an interest in light buy the individual. People always zone towrds screens because they are bright no matter what is going on around them.

Cooking programmes are popular with famous characters such as Jamie Oliver. Here I begin to focus on Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. Physiological....hunger

Bass frequencies remind us of the womb from their warm vibrations. Mother as the person who traditionaly stayed at home and watched television with the children. A comfortable and loving person.

Father, the authorative character who teaches you by understanding the difficulties of this world.

Maslows theory of safety and security comes next. This is used in a controlling method by instilling fear and convincing people to stay inside and consume more.
From the atomic bomb information packet given to kids "duck and cover" I have taken out all the other words to leave only Duck or Cover. The constant repetition shows a brainwash style.

As the man on TV transends through advertising to art the bomb becomes beautifull. Like the shock value advertising style of the YBAs the Union Jack is Shown to highlight the B part of YBA. A sense of nationality was given to these artists improving their support. A sense of community.

This sense of nationalism is increased as the news speaks on a totaly national level. The sense of community is given by dsescribing local, national and international news. Seperating us from the rest of the world and uniting us with the rest of our city and country. God Save the Queen is played in the background with Brass and String hits that the news programmes begin with. The sense of authority is similar to the father figure.

Like the current trial of Saddam Husein, many political leaders have been censored in the media to sty and convince the audience of a particular opinion. I chant Swine, Swine, Swine. A quote from Orwell's 1984 where drones hurl abuse at a character on TV who they are unsure why they hate, a scapegoat for unified hatered. My line in Spanish refers to Gearge Bush's television advert that makes an effort to win the latino vote. The ad uses images of familiy life. All Bush's ads have the slogan "I am G.W. Bush and I approve this mesage."

Soap operas create the sense of communtity by creating an image that one is part of that area. Experiencing the woes of each family. Through dayly watching the charaters become as much a part of our lives as our genuine family. Maslows need for love/acceptance.

Kids are also made to feel loved and part of a family. Barney even states this in his song. Childrens programmes such as Playground and Blue Peter create a community \ family spirit but alienate the child infront of the TV. Learning social interactions is mediated by this machine.

Ending off with the disturbing hugging of the pure screen with a horrable high pitched noise coming off......mmmmmm

CELLULAR LIFE

From the photographs of appartment blocks I took, I edited it into a film and placed these geometric living quaters inside a frame. I then shaved a rectangular space in my head and projected the video onto this. Apparently it looks a lot better in real life and work better as a living sculpture. The video documentation is not as strong.

People live in geometric spaces that restrict their perception of life in this world\infinite universe. Paintings hang in galleries within the same constrictions. Religion controled art for many years and here this is represented by the shaved patch of which a monk might have. Monks live in cells and this gives an impression of control. Now the gallery controls art and we are like the drones who bought penance for their sins but now buy paintings of "big name" artists at the Frieze Fair.
