It also tracks the subject in the room, the closer they go to the right speaker the volume goes to the left, the more they go to the left it pans to the right.
It tries to bring the subject into the piece to highlight distance between reality and a work of art. They arreal in this perceptual trick.
The meaning of the piece is spoken as audio and as it pans away from the subject it prevents them from finding out the official meaning.

This has been a bit dodgy as there is a nasty scrubbing sound when the volume goes up or down. I found this to give me more confidence in a performance I was not too content with. Still some of the imagery needs to be stronger and my writing style needs to be cleaner and more graffitiesque.
I also saw new layers in that the gallery goers seem to be behind a cage in the end. Similar to the cages of our own homes. Directed by Jay Rechsteiner we put on an audience interactive performance with a projection and some soundscapes. This took place at the The Wormhole Saloon 2 on the 17th March at the Whitechapel Gallery.
Although being nervous about the improvisational aspect of the work and the prestigue of the stage I found the rest of the evenings lack of happenings to make it boring and thus anything we did would be exciting. This was true but all in all it was not the greatest success. The audience reaction was mixed. Mad and weird but very unprofesional and studenty.
This is the last project held by the Washroom Projects and I am happy to have been involved in an event at Whitechapel and aslo to realise that improvisational work is not exactly my bag.
http://www.jayrechsteiner.com/twp/run_baby_run.htm

Origami Payslips

Artists who have changed their art economy from Sole Traders into PLCs. Closed Circuit Television becomes Closed Minded Television. This hints at the controling nature of television and the gallery system. It also refers to GMTV, and suggests about the everyday influence of TV in our lives. I do believe it is a bit negative. The work is supposed to act as a comment on culture and not an attack.
The performance piece will have two musicians. One singing Hank Marvins Heartbeat ( used by ITV for the TV show) the other will play Tony Heart's Heartbeat (kids TV artshow). The violinist will play into a mic in a dummy CCTV camera to trigger video footage of a gallery surveilance system and the signger will sing into a mic in a TV remote control to trigger video off of TV. The song refers to the nature of human life, the organic creature and the mathematical dictations of life. The geometric nature and institute of art education and the gallery compared with the beauty of innocent creation. Both shown in mediums of mass consumption, the TV and the computer screen.
This is art. Art is on the wall. Spot goes to art. From looking at the ekosystem website I was under the impression that good artistic graffiti was prevalent in Paris but accodring to Alex One, Parisian artist it was stopped 10 years ago and any work is cleaned off immediately by the mayor, known as Notre Dame. This leaves graffiti to exist in the coffee table mannor of the gallery and pushes the real artists into the suburbs and out of the culture of the city.

The Content of My Head is Visable @ Espace Beaurpaire
As said, coffee table fashion hype graff on canvas some interesting stuff but mostly conformities to gallery art and graffiti, leaving the work with no particular purpose just a mix of two branding styles.

Permanent Collection @ Musee Du Arte Modorne
As it says on the tin. It was probably the most horrable piece of work I have ever seen and proved to me even further about work created solely as a comodity.
On the other hand just around the corner there is an exhibition by JR a French photographer. I was a fan of him already and een more now. He takes photographs of street artists and of the suburban French ghettos. These images are blown up on an architects printer ( as he old me himself ) and wallpaper pasted onto walls. Some big billboard sizes. Influences me to get photos printed the size of billboards and paste onto them. When someone feels the fear of the gallery space and CCTV they will be reluctant to sing but it is only in their singing can they enjoy the piece.

BIBLIOGRAPHY

BOOKS

Banksy, Wall and Piece.

Batty, M. & Longley, P Fractal Cities

Baudrillard,J. Here I show my old work Cellular and a new work Graph. Graph entails a projection onto a sheet of paper hanging on the wall. I draw on the paper around the projection and do minimum performance. The basic ideas are the same. Gallery and residentail flat control. Here the aesthetic nature of the frame is compared to the aesthetics of appartment gates. Gates create a lack of communication between the public but attempt to hide this by trying to be ornate. I feel the same for the gallery frame. This piece also relates to how graffiti has been brought into the gallery and the artmarket.

Antenna

I have just sent off a copy of my music video to Antenna www.antennapromo.co.uk where hopefully it may get shown at the NFT on the 23rd February. I worked with Mia who performed a piece with Peter Bond at Nolia's Gallery for our other event. We stuck mouths o our bellys and talked as if we were two random people meetin in a pub. While talking absolute crap in a way of trying to convince the other of your coolness and therefore sexual hierarchy we got closer as if we were excited by the subject. We then became perverse in how we described the subject. We then immediately fell back into bullshit chat. It releated to sexual exhaustion of meeting people without actually getting to know them.
Great experience
Another Nolia's Gallery Event has been arranged for Sunday 29th January.

NEWSPAPERS

Scanned in Metro cover and changed the name. Here is image documentation of the piece and I will talk through all the different parts. PLEASE VIEW THE PIECE FIRST AND THEN READ THIS FOR CLARIFICATION.

Opens with television giving the orders. Demonstrates control.
Screen shows white noise-style agitation and then a flicering light. Suggests an interest in light buy the individual. People always zone towrds screens because they are bright no matter what is going on around them.

Cooking programmes are popular with famous characters such as Jamie Oliver. Here I begin to focus on Maslow's Hierarchy of Needs. Physiological....hunger

Bass frequencies remind us of the womb from their warm vibrations. Mother as the person who traditionaly stayed at home and watched television with the children. A comfortable and loving person.

Father, the authorative character who teaches you by understanding the difficulties of this world.

Maslows theory of safety and security comes next. This is used in a controlling method by instilling fear and convincing people to stay inside and consume more.
From the atomic bomb information packet given to kids "duck and cover" I have taken out all the other words to leave only Duck or Cover. The constant repetition shows a brainwash style.

As the man on TV transends through advertising to art the bomb becomes beautifull. Like the shock value advertising style of the YBAs the Union Jack is Shown to highlight the B part of YBA. A sense of nationality was given to these artists improving their support. A sense of community.

This sense of nationalism is increased as the news speaks on a totaly national level. The sense of community is given by dsescribing local, national and international news. Seperating us from the rest of the world and uniting us with the rest of our city and country. God Save the Queen is played in the background with Brass and String hits that the news programmes begin with. The sense of authority is similar to the father figure.

Like the current trial of Saddam Husein, many political leaders have been censored in the media to sty and convince the audience of a particular opinion. I chant Swine, Swine, Swine. A quote from Orwell's 1984 where drones hurl abuse at a character on TV who they are unsure why they hate, a scapegoat for unified hatered. My line in Spanish refers to Gearge Bush's television advert that makes an effort to win the latino vote. The ad uses images of familiy life. All Bush's ads have the slogan "I am G.W. Bush and I approve this mesage."

Soap operas create the sense of communtity by creating an image that one is part of that area. Experiencing the woes of each family. Through dayly watching the charaters become as much a part of our lives as our genuine family. Maslows need for love/acceptance.

Kids are also made to feel loved and part of a family. Barney even states this in his song. Childrens programmes such as Playground and Blue Peter create a community \ family spirit but alienate the child infront of the TV. Learning social interactions is mediated by this machine.

Ending off with the disturbing hugging of the pure screen with a horrable high pitched noise coming off......mmmmmm

CELLULAR LIFE

From the photographs of appartment blocks I took, I edited it into a film and placed these geometric living quaters inside a frame. I then shaved a rectangular space in my head and projected the video onto this. Apparently it looks a lot better in real life and work better as a living sculpture. The video documentation is not as strong.

People live in geometric spaces that restrict their perception of life in this world\infinite universe. Paintings hang in galleries within the same constrictions. Religion controled art for many years and here this is represented by the shaved patch of which a monk might have. Monks live in cells and this gives an impression of control. When printing a contact sheet I noticed that the contact sheet resembled the council blocks aswell. I may take shots in a selected order and then print the contact sheet to simulate a council block. This image could then be framed in either an ornate or bland frame. This would suggest how our mental development is influenced by the geometric structures we live in and even how our view of art is influenced by the geometric structures we place it in i.e. gallery/frame.

Performance Links

www.telebody.ws

Very close to what I am planing on doing.
